To our valued Tennessee Amateur Radio Association (TARA) members and followers,
We've heard from many of you recently, and it's become clear there's some confusion circulating about TARA and its relationship with another organization, the National Amateur Radio Alliance (NARA). We want to take this opportunity to clear the air and directly address these concerns.
First and foremost, let's be absolutely clear: the Tennessee Amateur Radio Association is in no way associated with the National Amateur Radio Alliance. While we've noticed some similarities in branding, including logos and color schemes, TARA was established in July 2024, well before the idea of NARA even came about. We operate completely independently.
Our focus has always been, and will always remain, right here at home in the Volunteer State. When we started TARA, our goal was simple: to serve Tennessee amateurs, remove as many barriers as possible, and stay true to our motto: "leave amateur radio better than we found it." Every decision we make, and every initiative we launch, is with you, the Tennessee amateur radio community, in mind.
We've also received a number of questions about our membership rates and what TARA offers, specifically in light of perceived differences or confusion with the other entity's pricing. We want to be transparent about this. We've structured our membership levels to be as affordable as possible, ensuring that financial barriers don't prevent anyone from helping us build and strengthen our association. What's more, all membership dues stay right here in Tennessee to directly benefit our members and the amateur community throughout the state.
Here's a quick breakdown of our membership options:
For our upgraded individual members, you'll enjoy benefits like free remote VE testing, yearly awards, giveaways, in-person meet-ups, workshops, opportunities to serve on committees and hold office, voting rights, and more as TARA continues to grow.
Our club membership level is designed to empower local amateur radio clubs. It includes perks like email forwarding, website and map listings, access to our Volunteer Examiner (VE) team for remote and hybrid VE testing, and access to our virtual meeting space for your club's meetings and workshops. This is especially helpful for members who might not be able to attend in person.
We sincerely hope this message clears up any confusion you may have had, particularly regarding our distinct pricing and offerings. We are incredibly proud of what we're building here at TARA, and we appreciate your continued support as we work to enhance amateur radio across Tennessee.
Thank you for being a part of the Tennessee Amateur Radio Association!
Sincerely,
The Tennessee Amateur Radio Association Admin Team
